Colin,

It looks more and more like your brain chemistry just was not mature enough to stir you when you stopped breathing. Research is starting to point to a combination of brain chemicals that are needed to remind SIDS infants to start breathing again when they stop during sleep. In other words, you and other SIDS babies may have never had a fighting chance. While in some ways it is strangely comforting to start finding out that your brain chemistry was the probable issue, it sucks to know that eventually that chemistry would have matured and given enough time, you would have been out of the "danger zone." Maybe this time next year (or sooner) more research will confirm these findings and there will finally be an answer to what predisposes an infant to SIDS so that work can begin on a cure for that predisposition. Daddy will keep you posted.

I love you!
Daddy
