Squirrel Gate

Colin,

In order to try to break this funk, Daddy is going to share something funny with you today. It is something that fall under the "other duties as assigned" label in Daddy's job description...squirrel catcher. Yes, I know, Daddy works in an office where squirrels are not supposed to be able to get in. Well, this one clever little squirrel found his way in and parked his little but in our server room (it is quite warm in there). He just crawled underneath the nice warm rack and kicked back for a few. This would be no big deal except for the fact that the wires that lead to very expensive computer equipment are things squirrel enjoy chewing, so he had to go.

Daddy tried to use a yard stick to flush the little guy out. Did it work? Nope. Daddy tried to use a piece of nutty pastry to lure him outside. Did that work? Nope. The little guy took the bait and ran as fast as he could back to the server room. I know, your Daddy was outsmarted by a furry rodent...we can talk about that later. Finally, we called facilities, who called security, who sent not one but two armed guards to come get this thing out. This is where the fun begins.

The guards were trying to make noise to get the squirrel out. It did not budge. They tried "surrounding" the server rack. The squirrel knew it was safe underneath there and did not budge. Finally, one guard used an air "cannon" to scare the squirrel. It worked alright. The squirrel jumped out and onto one guard who danced around like crazy to get it off. Then the squirrel jumped from the guard to Daddy's leg. Daddy flicked it off and the squirrel went right back into that room to hide. It was quite the sight to see three grown men try to get this thing out of the building. The air blast worked on the second try, and the squirrel was gone in the blink of an eye. So, as you can see, not everything in life is sad. Some of it is quite funny, and it is in moments that life feels a bit more normal. Quite honestly, it was the first pure "belly laugh" Daddy has had in a very long time, and it felt good...even if it was for just a few brief moments.

Much love from your squirrel chasing Daddy!
