Hurt

Colin,

Daddy has shared his thoughts about music before, and how  it often reflects how he feels or is better at expressing how he feels than his words ever could. One song that Daddy relates is Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. It is a song about battling drug addiction and often failing. In the last lines of the song, he says that he would find a way if he could just be given a second chance. Oh what Daddy wouldn't do for a second chance to make everything different. If you listen to the song, you can actually feel the pain and struggle in the way it is performed, and the sincerity of wanting to start again and find a way because often the only thing that feels real is the pain.

I love you!
Daddy

Hurt
by: Nine Inch Nails

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
but I remember everything

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stain of time
the feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here.

What have I become?
my sweetest friend
Everyone I know
goes away in the end
You could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way.

  1. My name is Kevin Black. I lost my son, Mason, almost 10 weeks ago. He was 11.

I have been searching blogs and the net in general to see and read about what other fathers are doing and thinking after the loss of a child. Obviously, because I am commenting on it, I noticed the NIN song "Hurt". While I am not a big Country and Western fan, you might want to check out Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt".

My prayers are with you, brother.
